I am about to inherit my husband’s “old” iPhone 8, and I need a case. I love the idea of getting a flip case, especially because I hate carrying a purse and a wallet. would you consider these protective, or will the phone still go kaput if you drop it? thanks for the ideas!

Flip cases are great especially if you don’t like carrying a purse or wallet with you everywhere you go. It does do a good job of protecting your phone if dropped. However, the case by OtterBox and Spigen will provide you with the maximum protection if dropped.

These are some very nice cases and some I was not aware of. As expensive as the iPhone is, I would encourage anyone who owns one to invest in a case also.

I know my case has saved me on many occasions. I am a big fan of the Otterbox cases. I have found them to be very durable and dependable. Thanks for sharing this as it gives me some other choices to think about.

You got that right the iPhone 8 is very expensive. Right now it looks like it’s about $700 to $800. I always encourage people to use AppleCare, too. Here is a link where you can purchase AppleCare just in case you don’t have it already:

I love the idea of having a good case on my phone. The OtterBox is my favorite but it is nice to know I can choose other kinds. Do you know anything about the Liveproof case? I was looking for information on those but still, like my first choice of the OtterBox.

I tend to go for slimmer cases for my phone so the TORRAS case and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid look like the perfect cases for me. They’re at a very affordable price too which I also like. Great review and I will have to check these cases out.

We agree. Something is more sophisticated about having a thinner smartphone, rather than having a cell phone that is like carrying around a brick.

This case by AnoKe is so cute. I wasn’t expecting much when I got it but was pleasantly surprised when it showed up. I have the rose gold one. I was surprised at how thick the plastic was on the phone. Pretty happy with this case and I might go ahead and get another one. I am thinking about getting the black and pink one.

Cool beans thanks for letting us know.

I have always bought Spigen cases for my iPhone’s over the last 2-3 years. I do like the one you have shown in this list. However, I might go with the Flip Filio one this time. It’s only $7.99 so if it doesn’t work out I can always go back to the reliable Spigen case.

    • February 24, 2018 at 6:10 pm

Sounds like a good plan. We are pretty confident you will be happy with the Flip Filio one, though.

When I first visited your website (, I was thinking of getting an iPhone 6 or 6s but after giving it some thought, it’s likely I would go for iPhone 8 now. iPhone X is pretty pricey but iPhone 8 has the best screen that I need.

Anyway, I did mention to you in the past that I’ve made a mistake of not getting a case for my current 5s and visually it looks like crap (pardon my French). So, I am definitely getting one this time.

    Here’s my dilemma though.

I am thinking of getting a Flip Folio Leather Wallet Case because it has the ID and CC pockets. But if I get that kind of case versus a regular case then I won’t be able to attach a pop socket to it, will I? I am using pop socket since it’s easier to take a selfie or simply hold it tighter.

I realize it might be more of a personal preference but still would like to hear what would you prefer more:
    – have a “normal” case with a pop socket to be able to vlog/take selfies/etc OR
    – have a case that has your ID and CC and even cash (and so you won’t need to take your wallet to clubs for example).

Hopefully, you’ll be able to help me out with my small dilemma situation. Thank you.

To be quite honest with you the iPhone X is very expensive right now. The iPhone 8 is a great phone though and it can do mostly everything the iPhone X can do. We typically don’t buy the new phones right when they come out because they are quite pricey when they are released.

The Flip Folio case will not work with the pop socket. The Flip Folio phones are better when you don’t want to carry your purse.

      Hopefully, this helps.

I can really relate to the need of having a good cellphone case. I have dropped my phone more times than I can count. I have used otterbox in the past but didn’t like how bulky it was. The Torras looks like it would be a better fit for me due to its sleek design. Do you think Torras offers just as much protection as Otterbox?

    • March 17, 2018 at 9:03 pm

Yeah, Torras is a good brand. Not always a fan of big bulky cases.

  • March 15, 2018 at 12:44 am

I agree that if you’re going to spend $800 on a phone, you might as well spend another $50 to get a case so if and when you do drop it you will still (hopefully) have a functioning phone!

I love my Otterbox, but I also like the ‘wallet-style’ cases where you can fit your ID and cards into. Neat-o stuff for sure.

    Thanks for writing this article!

Yep, not using a case can be an expensive lesson. there are companies like iCracked which can fix your phone if it can be repaired, though. If the phone is beyond repair, though you’re going to have to be spending lots of money.
